From the UK's complex Statutory Residence Test to the UAE's zero-tax environment — we cover the rules that matter to nomads.
The UK uses the Statutory Residence Test (SRT). Spending 183+ days makes you automatically resident. Fewer days may still trigger residency depending on 'ties' to the UK.
180+ days in a calendar year triggers Thai tax residency. Foreign-sourced income remitted to Thailand in the same year it is earned is taxable from 2024 onwards.
183+ days triggers Portuguese tax residency. The NHR regime (now replaced by NHR 2.0/IFICI) offers a 20% flat tax on Portuguese-source income and exemptions on most foreign income for 10 years.
183+ days in a calendar year triggers Spanish tax residency. The Beckham Law offers a 24% flat tax on Spanish-source income up to €600,000 for qualifying new residents.
The UAE has 0% personal income tax. 183+ days establishes tax residency, which is useful for obtaining a Tax Residency Certificate to claim treaty benefits in your home country.
183+ days in a calendar year (or 12 consecutive months from first arrival) triggers Vietnamese tax residency. Foreign-sourced income of non-residents is not taxed in Vietnam.
